Ivan Vít, born 1950, is a cameraman who has held various professions in the film industry since his early years. In the 1970ies he worked in the Animated Film Studio in Prague under Břetislav Pojar as an assistant cameraman and photographer. Later he studied art photography at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Prague Film Academy) for 3 years and after that he worked as cameraman until the mid-1990ies in the J. Trnka Studio. During those years, Ivan Vít collaborated on dozens of films with many outstanding film directors, namely: J. Švankmajer, B. Pojar, V. Pospíšilová, L. Beneš, P. Koutský, J. Havettová, working mainly and most regularly with Jiří Bárta. Since the mid-1990ies he has worked in the Animation People studio, which he co-owns.
Ivan Vít also taught at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and at present he teaches the course of “camera in animated film” at the Prague Film Academy. He is a member of the Board of the Association of Czech Cinematographers. He has contributed to the technological development of various devices for animated filmmaking (motion control, animation software, mechanical devices, etc.)
In his profession, he has dedicated himself to animated film, especially the classic puppet technology. At the same time, he has shot films made by various technologies of animated filmmaking, live-action and special combined technologies often used for filming commercials. In recent years, he has been using the knowledge of new technologies, such as digital cinematography, in the making of new movies. His works have been regularly shown at photo exhibitions. The movies he has worked on have received many awards at international animation film festivals.
